Saudi Arabia is collaborating with a Dutch greenhouse company to develop “a synthetic climate” that will enable desert areas to flourish with vegetation. The initiative involves designating an area approximately equivalent to 15 soccer fields to establish a horticultural haven on the peripheries of Neom. Van Der Hoeven Horicultural Projects, secured a $120 million contract with the Saudi government, will oversee the design and construction and maintenance of two experimental facilities in Neom over several years. These efforts are part of the extensive investment in food-tech sector in Saudi which because of its natural factors has been importing majority of its food supply.
